Straddling the Line, 2016
In this work, the artist plays with the performative nature of gender. There is a ubiquitous pressure to present oneself as one consistent gender identity, and this becomes limiting and often oppressive for those who fluctuate or exist between the lines. The artist uses the duality of both the screens and shadows to speak to the hyper-masculine and hyper-feminine performance while the performer remains of the same body.
